  • Stereotypes(of the Gender Sort)

So I was over at mancouch reading a blog- "Is it wrong for guys to wear makeup"

In reading the comments, i realized just how pervasive gender stereotyping is, and how stupid some of the stereotypes are.

    Lets see
    1) Guys who wear makeup must be gay
    2) Girls spend a lot of time prepping in the bathroom and therefore if a guy was to possibly prep for longer, that is bad.

    And the list goes on.

But here is a challenge to you readers....

Share your favorite ridiculous gender stereotypes.

Because in the end...that is all they are... stereotypes

    > Guys can't be sensitive or emotional- otherwise they are weak or gay. I hate that one. My husband is the sensitive type and that makes him so much more empathetic and sweet than any of the guys I dated before him. In short, it makes him a good husband and I think being a good husband is a huge part of being a good man.

    >Men shouldn't care much about how they dress. (It's like they're expected to know how to dress for the occasion, but not actually ever care, ever think much about it, or put too much energy into picking clothes out.) But how can a guy dress well if he has no feelings about what looks good on him or what he likes? Can't a guy have preferences? On the contrary, Matt (my husband, that is) is so picky when picking out clothes that the subtleties of what makes an item acceptable are even beyond me.

Haha... my husband usually takes longer to prepare in the bathroom than I do. It may not make logical sense, as my hair is three feet long and curly and his is three inches or less and straight, but that's how it goes and I don't mind a bit.
One thing I love about people, every gender, is that they are all so different. Preferences, habits, appearances, style- it's as varied as we are, as unique as our genetic codes. No stereotype is going to fit everyone and I find prolific use of stereotypes irritating.
